How to Get Mutations in Custom Keyboards

Mutants are extra rolls on a keycap, not a second game. Kick, lock, and trade them on purpose.

How to Get Mutations

Mutations are why two caps with the same rarity tag can pay completely different money. The official listing tells you to get rare mutations and become rich. It does not publish names, percentages, or a fusion minigame. This page is the practical farm: how mutants appear, how to stop selling them by accident, and how they sit next to Kick Power, trading, and the mutation tier list.

If you only wanted a color, you are in the wrong guide. Paint is a VIP extra on gamepasses. A mutation is a mechanical tag on a keycap (or sometimes a keyboard) that changes income or demand. Trust the HUD label and the step-money number, not a fan wiki SKU list.

How mutants actually drop

Every useful mutation this wiki can document comes from the same loop as rare caps:

  1. Kick the keyboard. Kick Power is the volume knob. Weak kicks roll commons. See how to kick.
  2. Look at the cap before you place or sell. Mutation tags show on the piece, not on the empty slot.
  3. Place it if it pays. Lock it if you might trade it. Sell it only if both the rarity and the mutant are junk.

There is no separate mutation dungeon. Event boards such as Boba can add themed pieces that also mutate. Trading can skip the roll entirely: buy the mutant someone else already kicked. Read how to trade before you offer your only gold-tagged cap as a go-first.

x2 Mutation Luck is a 299 Robux pass whose official text is “Get mutations far more often.” It does not publish a 2.00× table. Buy it only after Kick Power and slots make sense. Upgrade priority still starts with keyboards, not luck passes.

Lock before you sell

The fastest way to lose a mutant is sell-by-rarity. Auto-sell in a script is the second fastest. A mutated uncommon that prints more than a blank rare will die in both of those filters if you sort by color.

Do this instead:

  • After each kick, glance for a mutation tag before you mash sell.
  • Lock anything you would be sad to see in the recycle pile.
  • Compare step money, not rarity name. Keycap value is the language for that comparison.
  • Equip-best is a rarity sort. Recheck the board after it runs.

If a farm GUI offers auto-sell commons, leave mutants off that list. If you cannot configure the list, do not enable the toggle.

Kick Power still beats luck superstition

Players wait in the safe zone for a “mutation hour.” The developers have not published one. Volume of kicks on a better keyboard is the only public lever besides the luck pass. Train speed helps you take more kicks per minute; it does not change the mutant table. A fast weak keyboard still sprays commons.

Spend cash in this order when you are specifically hunting mutants:

  1. Next keyboard / Kick Power.
  2. Slots so a mutant has somewhere to sit.
  3. Train / upgrade station if it shortens dead time between kicks.
  4. Optional: x2 Mutation Luck, then x2 Keycap Luck.
  5. Cosmetics last. Keyboard Paint does not mutate a cap.

Keyboard tiers explains why the board model is the hunt. Rare keycaps is the sibling farm for rarity tags. Run both. A high rarity with a dead mutation can still be a trade chip. A low rarity with a live mutation can be the best stepper on the plot.

Trading mutants on a 4-player server

Mutants are easier to overpay for than commons because they look special. That is how scams work. Do not go first. Do not accept a “middleman” outside the trade window. Screenshot the HUD values. If the other player rushes you while a Boba timer is up, decline. Event FOMO is not a price.

When you have duplicates, trade the extra, keep the one that pays more per step. Demand moves. This wiki will not publish a RAP sheet. Use trading etiquette and the mutation tier list as a conversation, not a contract.

What this page will not invent

  • A list of mutant names the listing never used.
  • Fusion recipes.
  • A percentage next to x2 Mutation Luck.
  • A promise that AUTO Perfect rolls mutants. That pass has no public description.

If a YouTuber shows a named secret mutant, treat it as their HUD, not as a drop table. Confirm the tag in your own inventory before you rebuild the plot around it.

After you lock a mutant, go kick again. Mutations are a filter on the same roll you already run. The players who get rich are the ones who stop selling the filter.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Codes, Kick Power, trading, and Boba answers in one place.

How do I get mutations in Custom Keyboards?

Kick with more Kick Power, inspect each cap, and lock mutants before selling. Trading can skip the roll. See how to kick.

Does x2 Mutation Luck guarantee mutants?

No. Official text only says you get them more often. It is a 299 Robux pass on gamepasses.

Why did sell-by-rarity delete my mutant?

The filter sorts color, not income. Lock first. Keycap value compares step money.

Is a mutation the same as Keyboard Paint?

No. Paint is a VIP cosmetic. Mutations change the piece. Read gamepasses for paint.

Should I trade my only mutant?

Usually no. Duplicate first. Follow how to trade and never go first.
