Keycap Tier List

Keycaps are the product you roll when you kick the Custom Keyboards board. You place them, step them for money, let them earn offline, mutate them when the game offers a twist, and trade them on 4-player servers. This list ranks roles, not invented product names. If a YouTube thumbnail slaps a secret name on a cap, ignore it unless you can see that cap in your own inventory.

Sibling ranks live on keyboard tiers and mutation tiers. The parent Tier List Hub explains S through F. Farming tactics sit on how to get rare keycaps. Values for trades sit on keycap value.

Role tiers

S — Board anchors and trade bait. Highest money per step you currently own, plus any mutated piece that other players request in the safe zone. You keep these even if a higher rarity tag appears with a lower step number. Duplicate S caps are for trading, not for clogging every slot if a diverse board steps faster.

A — Full-board workers. Strong step money, easy to keep, rarely worth a hard trade unless mutated. When you equip best, most of the board should look like this once Kick Power is mid-game.

B — Early payroll. Better than starter junk, worse than your next keyboard’s rolls. Step them until slots are tight, then sell by rarity.

C — Vendor food. They exist so sell-by-rarity has something to chew. Do not trade C for C. Convert them to cash and buy Kick Power.

D — Quest or collection only. Keep a copy if an event quest asks, otherwise sell. Boba may temporarily raise a D if the event box wants a specific rarity band. That bump dies with the event.

F — Clutter. Broken placements, unsteppable pieces, or duplicates that auto-sell should eat. If a script cannot lock F separately from S, do not enable auto-sell. See auto farm.

Rarity bands versus money

Custom Keyboards uses rarity as a roll language. Public materials do not give a complete named ladder with odds, so this page talks in bands: common filler, uncommon workers, rare keepers, and the top tags the HUD colors as special. The important mechanic is that tag color is not a step-money guarantee. Always place a new high tag and compare its earnings to your worst placed cap. If the new one loses, it is trade bait or vendor food, not an automatic S.

Mutations sit on top of the band. A common with a strong mutation can out-earn a blank rare. Rank the mutant as its own object. Mutation tiers explain how to think about that stack without inventing mutation names.

Slot logic

Empty slots are wasted offline earnings. A full board of B caps beats a half board of S caps while you are gone. Buy keycap slots when you are throwing away B pieces to make room, not when you still have holes. Upgrade priority places slots after Kick Power and speed, because a weak kick filling extra slots with F caps is not progress.

When slots are full:

  1. Compare step money.
  2. Prefer mutated over blank at equal money.
  3. Prefer in-demand pieces if you plan to trade this session.
  4. Sell the rest by rarity.
  5. Do not delete the last copy of something a Boba quest might want until you read the quest text.

Trading the list

On a 4-player server, S is whatever the other three people need. Watch chat and safe-zone offers. A cap you rank B might be S to a player who just rebirth and lost their board. Do not overpay with your only anchor. Do not underpay with F clutter and a story. Screenshot, confirm both sides, then leave the safe zone and place what you received.

Skin plots do not change keycap tiers. Shop packs and spin wheels might grant caps; still rank them by step money after you open the pack. Codes such as BOBA or 2000LIKES might grant a box — open it, rank the contents, and do not assume the code name matches a cap name.

Keep this list boring and mechanical. Kick, place, read the number, sell the rest. When Kick a Keyboard adds a new top tag, rerank using the same tests instead of copying a clone-game secret list from Build a Keyboard or Paint My Keyboard. Those titles are not this board.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Codes, Kick Power, trading, and Boba answers in one place.

What is the best keycap in Custom Keyboards?

The highest money-per-step piece you can keep, especially if mutated and in demand. There is no public named champion this wiki will invent.

Should I sell all commons?

Sell F and most C. Keep B until slots and Kick Power improve. Event quests can temporarily save a common; check Boba event.

Does a higher rarity always earn more?

No. Place it and compare. Mutations and live demand can beat a blank high tag. See mutation tiers.

How do I rank duplicates?

Keep enough to fill slots, then trade or sell. Duplicates are currency on trading more than they are extra offline money.

Where do keyboard ranks go?

On keyboard tiers. Keyboards buy Kick Power; keycaps earn when stepped.
